The 2D has changed a lot since the start of the animation. We can notice that with Japanese animation and for example One Piece, which is adapted in anime for 23 years. Since 1999, animation techniques changed the characters in the lines, fluidity, or colors, so except their names and global aspect, the characters that we followed since we were kids don’t look like what we have in our memories of yesteryear.

However, nowadays, some anime have animation that we can consider as terrific as Seven Deadly Sins while some others like Demon Slayer are considered as masterpieces with the best animation in the last years. There is a big gap between these two artworks.

The 3D or CGI, a hard-to-use future
The CGI is used to reduce the animator’s amount of work because it is produced by a computer. It is however complicated to integrate in 2D, where some use it perfectly like in Chainsaw Man, some others are less successful like in the first part of the 4th season of Attack on Titan. This comparison is all the more natural that both Chainsaw Man and Attack on Titan came from the same animation studio, MAPPA. Where Chainsaw Man has dynamic and smooth animation, Attack on Titan looks like a low quality mobile video game. Hopefully, the guys who work on Attack on Titan have caught up with the 2nd part of season 4 by marrying far better 2D and 3D, given a beautifier and nicer final visual aspect.
